If you are considering traveling from Goa to Coorg this article provides some of the most common ways to travel. Coorg does not have an airport or railway station.
Before you read further here are a few things to note: 1. Bangalore = Bengaluru 2. Mysore = Mysuru 3. Coorg District = Kodagu District 4. Madikeri, Virajpet, Somwarpet etc. are towns in Coorg (Kodagu) 5. There is no city or town called Coorg.
1. Flight + Road ( Goa – Mysore, Mysore – Coorg)
The last we checked, there was one flight from Goa to Mysore. If you get a direct flight from Goa to Mysore, this is a great option. Mysore is well connected to towns in Coorg ( Madikeri, Virajpet, Gonikoppa etc.) . One thing to note. Mysore Airport is about 12 km from Mysore City ( Downtown). If you plan take a bus to Coorg you will need to take a taxi or bus from Mysore airport to Mysore KSRTC bus station.
If you are taking a direct taxi from Mysore Airport to Madikeri travel time is abut 2 hrs and 45 mins or less. Travel time by bus from Mysore City bus station to Madikeri is 2 hrs 45 mins. 2. Flight + Road (Goa – Bengaluru, Bengaluru – Coorg )
There are frequent flights from Goa International Airport to Bengaluru . Travel time by flight from Goa to Bengaluru is about 70 minutes. Once you reach Bengaluru you have the option to take a direct airport bus to Coorg (FLYBUS), or book yourself a taxi to Coorg. Travel time from Bengaluru airport to Coorg is between 6 and 7 hours. FLYBUS is operated by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).

3. Flight + Road ( Goa – Kannur, Kannur- Madikeri)
As of now, this is not a great option as there are no direct flights from Goa to Kannur. Flights are through Bengaluru or Mumbai. However should there be a time when direct flights are available, this is not a bad option. Kannur to Coorg is between 90 minutes and 3 hours (Depending on which part of Coorg you are travelling to) . Buses are not as frequent from Kannur to Coorg as it is from Mangalore , Bangalore or Mysore.
4. Flight + Road ( Goa – Mangaluru, Mangaluru – Madikeri)
At the time of writing this guide, there were no direct flights between Goa and Mangalore. However it may be available in the future, depending on demand. If you plan to take a flight to Mangalore airport, you will most likely transit through Bangalore or Mumbai airports. 5. Train + Road ( Goa – Mangalore, Mangalore- Coorg)
Train services are available from Goa to Mangalore . The last we checked Netravati express & Mangala Lakshadweep Express connects Thivim (Goa ) to Mangaluru Junction (Karnataka). Once you reach Mangalore you have the option to take one of the many frequent buses from Mangalore City to Madikeri. Please read this article on how to reach Coorg from Mangalore.
6. Driving from Goa to Coorg
This is the most common mode of travel for visitors from Goa to Coorg. One of the most commonly traveled routes from goa to Coorg is through coastal Karnataka, until Mangalore. This is a spectacular drive with beautiful scenery . For reference we will take travel from Panaji in Goa to Madikeri in Coorg. to Your route will be Panaji ( Goa) – Karwar – Kumta – Honnavar – Murudeshwar – Kundapura – Udupi – Mangaluru – Puttur – Sulia – Sampaje – Madikeri.
Murudeshwar has a beautiful temple while Kundapura has spectacular beaches. Drive time is around 11 hours. If you are looking to break your journey with an overnight stay, you can do so at Udupi ( Approx. 6.5 hrs from Goa) or Mangalore ( Approx. 7.5 hours from Goa). The drive to Madikeri is beautiful, especially as you enter Sampaje in Coorg and begin to drive up the mountains, to reach Madikeri.
